dates with daddy

Our Daddy is awesome. If you spend a little time with him it's obvious why the girls are head over heels for him.

He's fun.

The kind of fun that brings out special smiles and giggles and waaaaaaaay more fun than that Mommy woman that hangs around so often.

Why doesn't she get a job and let him stay home?!

:)

The girls enjoy all the fun things that Daddy comes up with so much that they want to do them over and over again.

Looking back at a few. This is a video from last April of an awesome couch jumping game created by Daddy.

Or dancing (a.k.a. spinning) like the video I posted just the other day. This one wears you out and makes you dizzy :) This is incredibly popular for the girls right now as they are really into all things princess and Daddy is their prince.

Here's a video of the Daddy's home from work ritual (from March of this year) we do every evening to the TU fight song (known around here as Buh-Buh ... cause there aren't any words).

We've been doing this little dance since before Corinne was born. It's getting more and more difficult as we add children and they keep getting heavier and heavier!

Well, today marked the second occurrence of the newest fun thing for Juliet to do with her Daddy - go on a date just the two of them.

Last Sunday while Beetles napped, Dominic wanted to take Juliet out to do something fun to give me a little quiet time to myself. They ended up visiting a pet store and sharing a McDonald's ice cream sundae. The pet store had a bunch of dogs in the store available for adoption making it an extra special trip for our dog loving daughter. She reported to Beetles later that she could go back to the pet store with her "sometime" and that if you put your hands in their crates, they will give you kisses. I think if Charlie was friendlier toward other dogs the two of them may have brought home a black dog named Marlin that apparently really liked them.

Well, the work week went by as usual this week. Both girls - especially Juliet - ask every day if it's the weekend.

And today (Saturday) I could finally say that yes it was the weekend. Daddy would indeed stay home all day to play with them.

And at Beetles nap time today Juliet had a plan.

From the other room, I could hear her telling Dominic that they needed to go somewhere. Like last time. Maybe the pet store. That he should get his shoes.

Can a prince resist his princess?

They went to the pet store to get Charlie some dog food and to get ice cream.

Not just any ice cream.

Pretty sure she had no idea what a double dip ice cream cone was until today. And she didn't want share :)

Her prince delivered another stellar date ... and set the bar pretty high for next week!!

sweet daddy kisses

I guess I'm a little post happy tonight! Just uploaded a bunch of photos to Flickr and I can't go to bed without posting these cause I think they are funny, especially in light of Juliet's black eye. Poor girl may need to work on defending herself from an unsuspecting small set of fists in the future.

Innocently playing with Daddy's zipper.

And then I told her to give Daddy a kiss. Cause that would make for an ADORABLE picture, right?

Or so I thought.

This is what I got in the seconds that followed.

"You get over here and give Daddy a kiss!"

DSC_0056

The kiss :)

DSC_0057

And then her little hand goes up ... what?!?!

DSC_0058

Do you see that face? Ummm ... naughty ...

Daddy put on a good show so she kept at it :)

Dominic holding her back. Ha!

we were out with the sun

Nothing very coherent to say tonight, but lots of pictures to share.

DSC_0062

The sun was out.

We were out with the sun.

DSC_0045

It was a wonderful surprise for the middle of February.

DSC_0006

We broke out the bubble machine and sidewalk chalk and played barefoot in sundresses.

Some of us insisted on doing big girl things.

And some of us insisted on wearing both a dress AND a skirt.

DSC_0063

You just can't wear too much pretty stuff at the same time.

I sanded and stained and am just about done with the bookshelf.

Just about ...

We celebrated Dominic's 31st birthday. Juliet and I made this cake. It was good, but not great in my opinion. Garth apparently feels differently ... but maybe Tricia makes it better than I did.

DSC_0108

My first chocolate cake from scratch :)

The girls didn't understand why I didn't want to spend the day outside today.

It's cold again.

Corinne has figured out that walking may just be a better way to get around as she can hold things while she walks.

DSC_0167

And ponder the meaning of life while she walks :)

DSC_0153

I have no idea why she was doing that!

DSC_0172

Happy days here.

DSC_0159

Life is good.

Juliet asked me to take a picture of her toenails.

The end.

happy birthday daddy

happy birthday to you

happy birthday to you

happy birthday dear daddy

happy birthday to you

I didn't get a cake made today. Nor did I get his birthday dinner made. He asked for 3 way chili and got ham. I will use the excuse that his birthday PARTY is Saturday and that is when I will make up for all that was lacking today. We did make this happy banner though.

In all its construction paper, marker, and glue glory, I think I might have redeemed myself a little.

DSC_0081

Juliet it UBER proud of our creation too, so that's a bonus.

I ran to Sonic at 6:45 cause we needed ice cream right before bed. We didn't have cake remember?

In a book I'm reading the author talks about trying to put ourselves in a posture to accept the gifts that God is giving us, even if it's not what we'd planned. I might have wanted a different meal and a beautiful homemade cake, but God gave cold sticky Sonic ice cream.

snow

DSC_0047

We got a little snow last week (Jan 9-10) and since it's doesn't happen all that often I figured I should write about it. Juliet has been waiting anxiously for snow for a while now. In her 2 year old mind winter = snow.

DSC_0054

She waited all day for Daddy to come home so they could play in the snow. Dominic called me when he was 10 minutes out so I could start bundling up the girls as the sun was setting quickly.

DSC_0049

I put mittens on Beetles feet and socks on her hands. The mittens seemed warmer than her shoes, but once I had put those on I didn't have anything for her hands! She seemed warm enough ...

DSC_0063

They tromped around the yard, kicked snow for Charlie to jump at (he's a crazy snow loving dog), played on the swings (This was Beetle's favorite part. She's got her new swing now and she's a big girl!), and tasted the snow. Juliet told me that "It taste a little like ice cream. It's icy."

nine years

Love. Sweet love. Nine years ago today was our wedding day. Wow. Nine years.

I had big plans of posting a bunch of pictures from our wedding, but getting married way back in 2002 (practically the stone age) means that I don't have all the jpgs neatly filed in a folder on my computer for easy viewing and sharing ... I have a photo album ... and a sack of negatives :)

Here's one I found that I scanned in last year.

birdseed

It's one of my favorites. At the time I wasn't thinking about the mass quantities of bird seed making the way into my hair and down my dress.

I was just in the moment. Happy. I still am.

I love you Sweetheart.
