impromptu lesson of the day: crunchy

J likes to recreate things. If something fun happened, it should be relived over and over again. For example, one day at lunch a couple months ago, I had B sitting in her Bumbo seat on the table with some links while J and I ate. B would drop the links on the table and J would giggle at her. Not sure why it was so funny, but it went on for at least 10 minutes. Here's a video of part of it.

Well, J loves to watch this video and laugh at it and is forever trying to give B links to relive this hilarious scene.

Lately, she's been wanting to recreate things she's watched on tv. She'll want to play with her beach ball if she's watched Barney at the Beach or play with trains and blocks after watching a certain Elmo movie (Learning to Share). Sesame Street episodes have also inspired her to want to do certain things. Two different times after watching the "Y Quest" episode, she wanted to eat yogurt (it's all about the letter Y and a yak eats yogurt).

This morning she wanted to watch the "Cookie Tree" Sesame Street episode. After seeing everyone eat crunchy apples from an apple tree, Cookie Monster wants a cookie tree and Abby Cadabby uses her fairy magic to bring a forest of cookie trees to Sesame Street. They talk about the apples being crunchy and the cookies being crunchy. Soooooo, naturally she needed to eat an apple. A crunchy apple.

At lunch she wanted some carrots. As I was cutting them up for her I realized that they were crunchy too, so we had a little impromptu lesson on crunchy foods. I rummaged through the pantry and fridge and came up with a few other things for her to eat - carrots, apple, pretzel, chip, rice cake. All crunchy and delicious.

And then I felt really happy and proud that I was teaching her all about crunchy  ... and then I realized that it was in fact her idea ;)
