flash flood

I can’t really complain because Daddy isn’t gone for work a lot, but man it’s hard when he is. It’s hard for a family to function right when a piece is missing, even if that is just for 2 days. Reminds me just how much joy he brings us every day when he’s not here and I have to try to function without it. We are so blessed to have such a fun Daddy!

Charlie moped around all day - which could have been because I forgot to feed him breakfast until 2pm - and keeps anxiously checking the front window for Daddy’s green truck to pull into the driveway. Just a few more hours bud …

We tried to go to Storytime at the Library, but it was canceled. Of course a mom doesn’t discover this until she’s lugged her many small children from the car all the way into the library … this was me and a handful of other women. I could tell who they were by the blank expression on their faces - “What the heck am I supposed to do now?” So we wandered around outside until J decided to sit in a puddle on the sidewalk and soak her bum. That girl. I told her from now on hands and feet are fine in puddles, but bottoms are not a good idea unless you have on your swimsuit :) I was thankful I hadn’t taken the basket full of clothes in my trunk to Goodwill yet as I found a suitable replacement for her shorts.

This evening it rained and flooded - seriously. I thought it would be fun to head to my family’s for dinner, so we loaded up - all 4 of us (people + dog) - and headed across town. I even knew there was a flash flood warning, but the radar didn’t look bad. Well I hadn’t even made it out of the neighborhood before I’d landed myself in high water enough to make me nervous and made the decision we needed to go home. Problem was that we couldn’t get home. I could not get to our house from any direction, saw numerous cars stuck, and backed us out of more flooding spots than I’ve even seen in my life! I gave up trying to get home and we did make it to my family’s after an hour or so of driving around in the crazy flooded streets. All I have to say is that the car dvd player probably saved my life today :) We made it home a couple hours later and our street looks like it barely rained. Craziness.

J and B telling Daddy good morning … and to come home soon.
