mobile refashion

I have a recent obsession with refashioning. I don't know how I happened on it in the blog-o-sphere, but I love the whole concept = make something new and fabulous out of something old. While I have tried my hand at a couple simple t-shirt refashion projects, that's not what I am blogging about here. I am kind of stretching the meaning here to extend beyond clothing ... a crib mobile refashion.

Something old: I've had the same mobile we used over Juliet's changing table hanging over Corinne's crib. She likes it, but has been bored with it for a while now. I've been meaning to change out the paper/pictures for a while now, but just haven't gotten around to it. Plus, I didn't know what I wanted to do ...

From Juliet's Nursery

Well, my mom bought a cricut machine for my sister and I to share. Danielle has a legitimate need - she's going to start teaching in a couple weeks, and I ... well I am dork and I just like it! I made a birthday banner for Juliet using a machine I'd borrowed and it was love at first cut!

So, the machine was out because my sisters were using it and while rummaging through scrapbook paper for them I came across some old calendar pages I'd saved (again, something old!!!). All different types of beautiful flowers. It was an Easter Seals calendar we'd gotten in the mail back in 2005. PERFECT for little B's room!

J and I went to work today while B slept this morning.

15 minutes later, we were ready for B to wake up so we could adorn her mobile with it's new pretty pieces! I can't decide if I want to leave them like this or add some simple white cutouts in various shapes. For now, B is happy with it, so I am too!

I think it took longer to write this post than it did to make the mobile ;)

  1. A cricut! Maybe one day I'll get to play with one too. And a nice upcycle of the calendar into B's mobile!

  2. Upcycle! That's the other word I was trying to think of ... I knew you'd know! Michael's had a great sale on the cricuts ($100 off!) and my mom couldn't resist. I can't believe you don't have one! They can cut fabric you know?? You NEED one. Tell Chad I said so :)
