What a weekend. Now that I am not drugged up on pain meds I can blog again :)
Major adjustments being made by everyone. Much grace and patience needed. Much grace and patience given.
I continue to perfect the art of hopping, crawling, and scooting. Ever so careful not to put any weight on my left foot. While I took ballet nearly my entire life, I would still describe myself as quite clumsy. Lets just say it takes nearly all of my concentration just to get from one room to another without hurting myself (pain meds were not my friend in this department).
Our journey so far has included 2 extremely long nights - one where my pain meds came up short and the second involving a trip to the ER. Apparently one of the more uncommon side effects of both Hydrocodone and Oxycodone is difficulty going to the bathroom (#1). No worries. They fixed me up with an ever so convenient and cool catheter. Just what every post surgery one foot hopping mother of two small children needs - a pee bag on their leg :)
Bag is gone now (30 hours was long enough) and I haven't taken any pain meds since 12:30! Pretty sure Dominic may be happier than I am about the pain meds ... rumor has it that I wasn't very nice. I honestly don't remember, but can't deny that pain + fatigue + narcotics sounds like a recipe for disaster!
Not sure I can keep this up, but I wanted to make myself document something that I'm thankful for each time I blog throughout this foot ordeal. I wouldn't say I'm a negative person, but I'm not an overly positive person either. This is just an effort to help (read force) myself look for the positive in my life over the next month.
Today, I am thankful for a one story house as it makes my days easier ... and less dangerous :) It's is also indirectly a belated thanks to God for our house not selling when it was on the market just a year and a half ago. We searched and searched for a perfect home and eventually found that we were already living in it! Our house is perfect in so many ways - its single level is just one of them.
In addition to things I am thankful for, I would also like to include something I will not miss once I have my foot back. I don't intend for this to be a complaining opportunity, but we'll see how it goes ... if I start complaining I'll have to stop :) Today, I am ever so ready for my toes not to be cold and sweaty at the same time.
