mystery solved

I am taking a break from regularly scheduled programming (i.e. catching up on blog posting regarding travels, etc.) to document the mystery I solved this past week. You see, over the course of the summer Beetles has been acting different.

Saying new words ... and then sentences, making funny facial expressions, intentionally doing things to make us laugh, singing entire songs with me as I put her down to bed at night.  She looks older, chases after her sister faster, expresses herself better - is able to have a conversation with you, etc. A couple weeks ago, she brought me a letter "K" magnet from the fridge and correctly identified it when I asked her what letter it was. WHAT?!?! I didn't know you knew that! ... So we went and got another letter ... and she knew it too ... so Juliet and I kept quizzing and apparently the girl knows most of her letters. Who knew!?!

She's gotten even more independent (if that's possible), wanting to put on her own clothes, buckle her own car seat belt, eat all foods with a fork, say the prayer before meals, swim by herself, open doors ... basically everything her idol sister can do that she can't quite do yet. She uses the phrase "By self" frequently ... and we just let her ... I mean who cares if your clothes aren't on quite right or your striped socks don't match your dress and your shoes are on the wrong feet?

She's working puzzles, building block towers, and will sit and play with her Little People by herself for a while. She hears the trunk of dress up clothes opening with a big thump of the lid and comes running because she knows it's time to dress up like a princess and sing "a dream's a wish your heart makes." She gets frustrated because Pandora won't play "a dream's a wish your heart makes" non-stop all day long. She can browse and watch videos on our iPhones, asking "Movies, phone?" at the appropriate time in the evenings, right after having her teeth brushed.

She loves Word World and chocolate milk. She tells Dominic where to put his laptop bag when he gets home in the evenings. She loves to sing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, the Itsy Bitsy Spider, and the ABCs. Really there's not a song she doesn't like to sing (and know all the words to!).

It all happened as part of our daily routine and so slowly that I didn't really recognize what was happening. You see, I know I have another baby on the way, but I still like to cuddle with my Beetles and pretend she's my baby. Her skin is soft, she talks softly and sweetly right up next to your face, she smells good (most of the time), and sister loves to cuddle and lay her head on your shoulder for minutes at a time, acting all sweet and innocent ...

... and then she up and climbs out of her crib at nap time on Thursday!

This act caused a slight freak out by her pregnant mama who ate nearly half a bag of chocolate chips on Thursday afternoon attempting to cope with reality.

MY LITTLE GIRL IS GROWING UP! She'll be 2 in less than 3 months!

The changes in the last month and a half have been so unreal. It is truly such a privilege to be a mom and to watch these girls grow up and experience the joys of life right along side of them. I have the best job in the world!

p.s. The front of the crib is off and pushed up next to the full bed in her room. We are adjusting ... and while I won't say it's been without its bumps (she managed to get herself stuck underneath the dresser at nap time yesterday), it's made our lingering decision about what to do when the boy arrives much easier. Right now it's looking like a twin mattress is a better investment than another crib mattress!

p.p.s. I give Juliet credit for teaching Corinne her letters :) Juliet, our Leap Frog Letter Factory dvd, and Word World.

p.p.p.s. Her nickname has evolved yet again. Beet Beet ... kind of like Bam Bam ... yes, we apparently have a nick name problem!
